This lady! Yesterday Grace Hilliard-Koshinsky and I went to Fitting for the Future, an event where foster kids got personal shoppers and were allowed to pick out any dresses, professional clothing, jewelry, etc. that they wanted. It was incredible to see their confidence climb throughout the day and it got me thinking about my incredible mentor!

Grace and I met when I was 19 and felt incredibly alone in my foster care experiences. An an alum of foster care and an adopted person, Grace was excited to loop me into the Mass Network Fostercare Alumni. She was the first of many former foster youth who made success not only a dream but a reality for themselves and then, for me. It’s been almost 4 years now and I feel so grateful for her mentorship, friendship, and advocacy for former and current foster youth.

As I start to mentor current and former foster youth myself and start my PhD in Social Policy, I cannot thank her and MassNFCA enough for helping me solidify my goal of helping foster youth through evidence-based, empathetic, and forward thinking policy change.
